Help Fight CP!
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological condition that occurs during pregnancy or labor, or after birth, damaging the central nervous system. CP affects 500,000 to 700,000 Americans. Peter Zeidner, founder of Pedal-with-Pete, was born with CP, which has limited his ability to walk, use his hands and speak. The organization’s goal is to raise funds for medical research to prevent, treat, and even cure the effects of CP.
Dear Friends,
For years, the Pedal-with-Pete Foundation, dedicated to raising money for cerebral palsy research, has sponsored fund-raising bike rides in the Kent, Ohio area, and last year we hosted our fourth ride in Columbus.
In December of 2005, we again presented Dr. Albright and his Pittsburgh Children’s hospital research team a check for $50,000. Thanks to the participation and generosity of people throughout Ohio, $300,000 dollars have been raised in support of these research efforts.
The need for CP research is great. We have recently had contact with Reach for the Stars, a group founded by two moms with kids with CP who are also dedicated to raising funds privately and by lobbying for increased government investment aimed exclusively at CP research. In 2005, Dr. Albright’s research team received only $750,000 from the NIH and only $2 million dollars is spent yearly on CP research in the U.S. So you can see that Pedal-with-Pete has a very noticeable impact on what can be done.
There are so many ways to participate; just your registration fee alone builds funds for research and by gathering sponsorship dollars from your friends and contacts, you can really make a difference. You can also participate in the raffle for a great looking bike!
Our title is “Ride, for Pete’s Sake!”, but really you will ride for the sake of many, many with CP, and for this, we thank you!
